SUMMARY:LA Forward: Want to Run for Neighborhood Council?
DESCRIPTION:From LA Forward: \nThere are 99 Neighborhood Councils across the City of Los Angeles. They’re a unique way to learn about how local government works and to influence important policy decisions. Historically these official advisory bodies have been conservative and NIMBYish but we’re seeing progressives start to win seats and even gain majorities. \nElections are being held March through June of 2021 and the filing deadlines to become a candidate are coming up soon. We’re encouraging all progressive Angelenos to consider running for office in their own neighborhood. To help you decide whether to run and show you how to be effective\, we’re hosting an info session this Thursday.

SUMMARY:Neighborhood Resilience and Security After a Disaster
DESCRIPTION:After a major earthquake\, city services will be unavailable for days\, if not weeks.\n\nWe always talk about what happens hours after a disaster. This training will focus on what happens 5 to 7 to 14 days after a disaster.\n\nEveryone should be prepared to survive on their own without markets or gas stations or restaurants during this time.\n\nBut we don’t exist in a vacuum.\nWe live in communities\, in neighborhoods\, in street blocks. By working with our neighbors and combining\, trading\, or bartering for resources\, it’s easier for everyone to survive.\n\nBut time and time again\, we hear people who are worried about letting their neighbors know what they have or are worried that their neighborhoods will become targets by those who didn’t prepare.\n\nAn active\, prepared neighborhood will actually be less of a target than a single home that is prepared but isolated on their own.\n\nJoin us on Wednesday\, December 16th\, 7pm-9pm Pacific Time.\n\nThis training will be hosted on Microsoft Teams.\n\nYou will need to register on this Eventbrite to receive the invite to the Teams Meeting and instructions on how to join. Signups end 15 minutes before the training. We will be available an hour before the training to help test and make sure you get in.\nIf this is the first time you are using Microsoft Teams\, please don’t wait until the last minute to test.\n\nRegister Here
